Coordination visit to Schools

BSN, Founder/Chairperson Mr. Purna Magar and staff visited thirteen different secondary schools in Ramechhap Municipality. The visit was made to provide information and coordinate with school principles and teachers about the project “Promoting Menstrual Hygiene Education and Reusable Sanitary Napkin in the schools and women groups” supported by Foundation for Social and Ecological Future, German. The project had target to reach approximately 1,200 adolescents girls in the area raising awareness and educating them on menstruation, menstrual hygiene management and use of reusable sanitary pads.

Each schools principle and teachers were pleased to know about the project and committed to support BSN and project team during its implementation. They were enthusiastic to make their and students participation on upcoming orientations and training programs.

A Principle in the visit appreciates the ideas of joint/sharing cost from the beneficiaries and project to purchase set of Days for Girls kits/reusable sanitary pads (DaysforGirlsNepal) for the first time. He further explains that such practice will make users more responsible, create ownership and sustain project outcomes for longer term. Subsidies are good but full subsidies on development programs are observe failure, it makes noble and valuable initiations worthless.

The principle and teachers remain optimistic towards the project activities that will change the perceptions and behavior of adolescent girls, women and men, other family members, community people and local stakeholders on understanding menstruation hygiene management, breaking barriers and malpractices associates with menstruation and helping to create favorable environment in house, community and schools for girls and women.
